[A Bubble in Time: America During the Interwar Years, 1989-2001, William O'Neill, Ivan R. Dee, 448 pages] I EXPECTED A BOOK called "America During the Interwar Years" to be about Herbert Hoover and FDR, the stock market crash of 1929 and the Great Depression, the Roaring Twenties and the radio as a Publication: The American Conservative

President Obama recognized that America's image in the world was, to say the least, tarnished and made it a principal point of his campaign to insist that he would be able to improve our reputation. He might have started by rooting out all of the neocons who had taken over government-supported Publication: The American Conservative

That, and more, from Senator George LeMieux (R-FL):He's right... failure has washed up on shore... but that actually happened in November of 2008...

Is it polite to laugh at the President of the United States? I admit that I went through the “someone needs a hug” phase.  But his unrelenting arrogance killed that rather quickly.  So now I see something like a rat going through a maze:  He can smell the cheese but keeps on finding dead ends, so he backs up and tries another path.

The definition of a tough crowd? When Obama sycophants like Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews and Ezra Klein all give the President’s speech the worst reviews since the latest Ben Affleck movie, there’s not a whole heckuva lot for the MWU to add. Perhaps Olbermann said it best (didn’t think you’d ever see that line, did you?

House Republicans have been busy today on America Speaking Out.com. If you haven’t signed up yet, please do so! We started off the day with a video from Rep. Paul Ryan (WI), which was followed by an entry from Rep. Dave Camp (MI) calling on a vote to repeal ObamaCare. Politico covered the story today already. If check out House Republicans on Twitter today, you’ll see many entries on ASO so I hope you’ll check them out.

Not everyone involved in making movies is a pernicious moonbat devoted to destroying Western Civilization from within. Ann McElhinney, proud director of Not Evil Just Wrong and Mine Your Own Business, lays into the juvenile and pretentious James Cameron's most recent assault on America:

On a tip from Stephan.

I missed Andrew McCarthy's NRO column "The Gitmo volunteers" when it was posted online this past Friday. It bears on the issues Paul, John and I have addressed in commenting on the Keep America Safe ad seeking the identity of those previously unidentified Obama administration Department of Justice lawyers who represented or advocated on behalf of Guantanamo detainees.

If you missed Glenn Beck's keynote speech at CPAC a few weeks back, you missed something magical. The Right Scoop posted it in six episodes. Highly recommended.

This is a little taste. If you are an America-hating progressive liberal elitist, then you won't get it. Or, it might actually make blood spurt out of your eyes.

As John has said, the easiest way for a Republican to make news is to criticize another Republican. It's equally true that the easiest way for a conservative to make news is to criticize another conservative.

In an add-on to my post about the Keep America Safe video, John provided an insightful look at pro bono work as practiced in small town America (by his father and others) and as practiced at large law firms in New York and Washington, D.C. today. One of John's conclusion was that it's fair to ask about the ideology that lawyers who provided free legal services to terrorists bring to national security issues.

Keep America Safe is the handiwork of Bill Kristol, Lilz Cheney and Debra Burlingame. Its mission is to provide information for concerned Americans about critical national security issues. Paul Mirengoff has now twice attacked as "McCarthyite" the Keep America Safe ad urging the Obama administration to identify certain Department of Justice officials. The ad refers to the attorneys in question as "the al Qaeda seven."

One of the key arguments of Barack Obama's Presidential campaign was that he would improve America's image around the world. This idea was based on the false assumption that anti-Americanism was due to factors peculiar to the Bush administration, as opposed to the basic realities of America's role in the world and the hostility that many feel toward our values and interests. Thus, anyone foolish enough to believe that electing Obama would transform our international relationships must be disappointed.

A choice snippet from his floor speech this afternoon accusing Republicans of having mischaracterized what he said about this morning about America’s big 36,000-jobs-lost day.

Ah, Detroit, America's most progressive city. A liberal utopia, run exclusively by liberal Democrats whose priority in government is the achievement of "social justice" defined in progressive terms: high taxation, redistributionist social policy, and the institutionalization of racial grievances.

Marvel Comic’s Captain America is the mightiest soldier with the super powerful secret soldier formula that makes him a super man. What was the significance of the Tea Party convention that wrapped up last night? I'm a big fan of the Tea Party movement but was skeptical of the convention, on the ground that anything that made the movement seem more like a third party is a mistake. With hindsight, though, I'm not sure that happened. Glenn Reynolds was in Nashville, covering the event for PJTV.
