Ricochet

We got an email a few days ago asking if one of us would like to participate in a podcast with Peter Robinson, Rob Long and Mark Steyn. I said sure; that's not an invitation any sensible person would turn down. When I told my wife about it, she asked, "Is that Ricochet?" It was. Although I had not heard about it, she was already a fan. This morning we did the podcast via Skype. It was a lot of fun. Haley Barbour participated too, via an interview the hosts did with him a few days ago.

Silent sting

The ideological bent of the Democrats' cap-and-trade legislation and attempted health care takeover manifest a mind-boggling appetite for social control. Today Nancy Pelosi's health care monstrosity earns recognition as "the worst bill ever" by the Wall Street Journal. I'm not sure how long the record will stand in the Age of Obama, but it's hard to dispute that the bill under construction takes the cake for the moment.

Sondheim Tonight

If you are a fan of Broadway or American popular music, chances are you are familiar with the work of Stephen Sondheim and have one of his songs or musicals that you can easily call to mind. Taken as a whole, Mark Steyn observes in a largely unadmiring chapter on Sondheim in Broadway Babies Say Goodnight that, taken as a whole, Sondheim's catalogue is a one-man history of American pop and theater music. Today is his seventy-ninth birthday and notice should be taken.
