Insanity is like dishonesty. Just as little lies lead to bigger lies, the wacky interpretation of the 14th Amendment that grants US citizenship to foreigners who happen to be born here has led to full-blown rubber room lunacy. The latest paroxysm of preposterousness — Hotel Anchor Baby:

A Fox News poll asks, "What State Is Capital of Political Scandal?" The results so far:

It looks like even with the stuff that's been hitting the fan lately, the Dems running New York have a ways to go to catch up with the Dems running Illinois.

Next question: the notoriously septic political machine of which state produced the ham-fisted socialist currently occupying the White House?

In an add-on to my post about the Keep America Safe video, John provided an insightful look at pro bono work as practiced in small town America (by his father and others) and as practiced at large law firms in New York and Washington, D.C. today. One of John's conclusion was that it's fair to ask about the ideology that lawyers who provided free legal services to terrorists bring to national security issues.

Ms. Coulter has a key fact wrong (Ms. Giles' age) and mistakenly suggests that "advancing prostitution" is a crime in New York. Under New York law, there is no crime known as "advancing prostitution" of which anyone can be "guilty."

A better example of government incompetence, stupidity and overreach could not be found than the just released news today that General Motors is going to reinstate 661 dealers that had their businesses destroyed by President Obama's Car Czar Steve Rattnar (who bolted for New York midway through his term leaving an incredible path of carnage in his wake).

David "Bottomtooth" Brooks, the New York Waste of Times alleged token Republican columnist, laments that Tea-Party Patriots are more influential than his elite school chums:

I was sitting at my table this morning, looking over my schedule for the day, when Mister Reality came by, poured himself a coffee and took a seat.

"I suppose you are feeling pleased with yourself this morning." he began. When I said nothing but raised an eyebrow, he clarified. "Politically, I mean."

"Well,", I ventured. "New Jersey and Virginia were nice results, though I have to say I was cheering for Hoffman in New York."

All the poll-tracking is over. All the speculation about the meaning of the 2008 election is over. All the wondering about the vitality of the Obama magic is over. Elections have a nice way of clearing the air of prognostications and predictions. We have results. We have actual votes, not polls of possible voters. And the lesson this year is very simple.

Independent voters utterly loathe the Democrats.

There really is no other way to spin it.

Well, the amazingly-entertaining race for New York's 23rd Congressional District ends today, and it has brought out some truly enlightening facts. The most important one, to me, is how the two major parties deal with apostates.

In June, Sports Illustrated featured a cover story on general manager Omar Minaya and the Melting Pot Mets he built. New York's National League team had a grip on first place that had lasted a season and a half, and SI credited Minaya's fearless multiculturalism. The magazine drooled over the Publication: The American Conservative

In a move so lowly as to be completely expected, that still RINO but now former New York 23rd Congressional candidate Dede Scozzafava has endorsed Democrat candidate Bill Owens instead of Conservative party challenger Doug Hoffman in the upcoming election, trying desperately to toss her whopping 20% of support the way of Hope and Change.

My friend Jon Lerner has been doing the polling for the Club for Growth in the New York 23rd Congressional District special election. The Club for Growth is one of Doug Hoffman's major supporters in the race. I passed on Jon's analysis of the state of play last week in "Scozzafava sinking, Hoffman rising, Newt erring." Jon now writes to update us on the race in the light of Dede Scozzafava's suspension of her campaign yesterday:

Republican-endorsed Dierdre Scozzafava has suspended her campaign for New York's 23rd district Congressional seat, "releas[ing] those individuals who have endorsed and supported my campaign to transfer their support as they see fit." She evidently has not endorsed Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman.

Last night, there was a special election to replace Kirsten Gillibrand (D) in New York's Congressional 20th district. Both sides poured a lot of resources into the race and Barack Obama did everything short of showing up personally to help...

Voters in New York's 20th congressional district will select their new representative today. The seat in question was held by Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand (the fake gun-rights supporter, or is it the fake gun control supporter?) until Gillibrand was selected to fill Hillary Clinton's Senate spot.

Earlier this month, the Heartland Institute sponsored the 2009 International Conference on Climate Change in New York. The Conference differed from most such events in that it was devoted to science, not politics or propaganda. Heartland has now made the materials presented at the conference available online, here. You can review the agenda, watch videos of the keynote presentations, read transcripts of some of the speeches, and see the Power Points that were presented by the speakers.
