Note to self: never underestimate the power of Andrew Breitbart.

At last weekend's Tea Party Convention, the professional gadfly took on the "birther" movement (those people who deny President Obama's constitutional eligibility to be president). Breitbart didn't engage them on their chosen battleground -- legal minutiae and 18th century semantics and other forms of arcanery -- but instead on a strategic ground: what do they intend to achieve, and what will be the ancillary damage caused by their victory?

So yesterday I posted that representatives Boehner and Cantor responded in letter form to Obama's request for a public, televised health care summit. White House press secretary Gibbs has responded to that letter in a manner that is politics at its worst.

In August Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism John Brennan gave a speech outlining the administration's deep thoughts on combating terrorism. The speech -- "A New Approach for Safeguarding Americans" -- "conveniently outlined the administration's present and future policy mistakes," in the words of Daniel Pipes.

Great news, but these guys were a little late in realizing that Obama wants to destroy all their corporations and confiscate their money. Not quite sure how they missed that.

Just two years after Mr. Obama helped his party pull in record Wall Street contributions — $89 million from the securities and investment business, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics — some of his biggest supporters, like Mr.

Voters are now categorically rejecting every claim or promise made by this guy.... including democrats:

Contrary to President Obama's promises, voters say special interests have more influence on the political process now than they did a year ago, according to a new poll.

The poll, paid for by groups looking to curb the Supreme Court's recent campaign finance ruling, found that majorities of both Republicans and Democrats say special interests have increased their influence since the president took office, and they say Mr. Obama has not done enough to fight back.

I don't think the nation is suffering from Obama fatigue just yet. But, after a long, difficult year in office, plus two years of campaigning for the job, I get the sense that Obama himself may be suffering from it, and who could blame him? These photos add to that sense.

I hope the vacation helps him, but I suspect the would-be bomber wrecked it.

Michael Barone, writing in the Examiner, agrees with Karl Rove that for Repubicans "it won't be enough to surf voter dissatisfaction with Mr. Obama and the Democrats." Instead, says Barone, Republicans will have to look beyond mere opposition to President Obama's policies and reliance on issues that have brought them political success in the past, and formulate a new agenda.

Well, the amazingly-entertaining race for New York's 23rd Congressional District ends today, and it has brought out some truly enlightening facts. The most important one, to me, is how the two major parties deal with apostates.

Another example thrown onto the pile of Obama acting like he is trying to destroy the country. Think of a single American president who thinks so little of our country, it's energy, drive, and can-do spirit. We invented prosperity fer chrissakes. Who is this guy?

Today at the G-20 Summit from the New York Times.

Mr.

The University of Notre Dame has invited President Obama to speak at its commencement ceremonies. Obama has accepted the invitation. At the ceremonies, as is the custom, Notre Dame will award him an honorary degree.

It's wonderful that we now have Chairman Zero to restore America's allegedly tarnished standing in the world. In only 2 months he has achieved a long list of foreign policy accomplishments, including these listed by Ralph Peters:

While free trade yields a net positive to every nation that participates in it to any degree, tough economic times call for even more robust worldwide trade. With a failing economy it becomes all the more important for a country to maximize the use of its own resources and minimize the cost of the resources it brings in.

Victor Davis Hanson asks why so many Americans are depressed. Suggesting five themes that might provide an answer, he thinks that more than the economy explains our state of mind. I agree, but none of Dr. Hanson's themes accounts for my despair.
