President Obama recognized that America's image in the world was, to say the least, tarnished and made it a principal point of his campaign to insist that he would be able to improve our reputation. He might have started by rooting out all of the neocons who had taken over government-supported Publication: The American Conservative

Kathleen Parker:If Bill Clinton was our first black president, as Toni Morrison once proclaimed, then Barack Obama may be our first woman president. Phew. That was fun. Now, if you'll just keep those hatchets holstered and hear me out. No, I'm not calling Obama a girlie president. But . . .

It's becoming clear why President Obama first tapped Elena Kagan for his Solicitor General, and then Supreme Court nominee: their ideologies and ethics are remarkably congruent. And that alone should be enough to scuttle her nomination.

Back in the 1990's, Kagan was working for the Clinton administration. At that time, there was a bit of a fight over partial birth abortion. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists offered their professional opinion on the matter, and their paper stated definitively:

Just when you were probably convinced that liberal Democrats didn’t believe in property rights, President Obama demonstrates that they do. The catch is that from his perspective, the property is you. Using his party’s recently passed health care reform as justification, Obama all but declared total war on the American individual in an executive order he [...]

At NewsBusters, Lachlan Markay points out how differently our news media reacted to criticism of President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld by military officers, compared to the media's reaction to the McChrystal episode. To be sure, no two incidents are precisely parallel. On the whole, though, Glenn Reynolds' summary appears fair:

It's nice to see that the Judiciary (at least this one member of the Judiciary) is not completely beholden to The One and his progressive schemes, and actually understands the rule of law over thuggery.

In 2004, John Kerry insisted on subjecting American foreign policy to a “global test” if elected President in order to restore the standing of the US after the first term of George W. [...] Read the rest »

It's another severe embarrassment for the Obama administration, as the general the President hand-picked to run the war in Afghanistan gave remarkable access to a reporter from Rolling Stone (!) who recorded any number of ill-considered comments General McChrystal's aides made about members of the administration, including Joe Biden ("Bite me!"), General Jim Jones, and Obama himself.

I look for opportunities to praise President Obama, really I do, but they arise very seldom. Today, however, it's hats off to our President. Why? On Friday, he attended the Washington Nationals-Chicago White Sox game in D.C. to see rookie phenom Stephen Strasburg pitch. (The White Sox are Obama's favorite team, supposedly; he claims to have fond memories of "Cominskey Field.") At some point, Nationals fans started doing the dreaded "Wave." President Obama, to his everlasting credit, looked on disdainfully and refused to participate:

A cruel deception only to those who believed in the first place. My gut instinct is to tell these guys to go get themselves a nice, hot bowl of crybaby soup and shut the f–k up. But these kinds of articles are chock full of so much shadenfreude, that they are too good to let pass unnoticed. From The U.K. Telegraph.

President Obama is a lying liar who lies. “There’s nothing new with that.” Yeah, the speech wasn’t exactly truthful.

The definition of a tough crowd? When Obama sycophants like Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews and Ezra Klein all give the President’s speech the worst reviews since the latest Ben Affleck movie, there’s not a whole heckuva lot for the MWU to add. Perhaps Olbermann said it best (didn’t think you’d ever see that line, did you?

57 days after oil spill began, President Obama, along with his most trusted advisor, Ted Teleprompter,  will address the nation tonight about the horrible situation in the Gulf. We’ve read that much of the speech will have absolutely nothing to do with fixing the leak. Right now, people across the country are unanimous in their desire for the leak to be plugged and the mess to be cleaned up, period. Diverting attention and resources to other ideological or reactionary pursuits is not the answer right now.

Barack Obama can't quit smoking. But he isn't going to let Americans puff in peace. After the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act whisked through Senate and the House, the president waxed effusive. "I'm proud," he said. Once again, Hot Air readers need to pick a winner for Obamateurism of the Week, and like a meeting with President Obama, the process won’t be brief.  We can’t control Obama’s amateurish nature, and we’re also not going to change it despite our best efforts.  We’ll just kee
