Arguably the least popular Republican (in name only) Senator in the caucus, Arlen Specter today deep sixed the Employee Free Choice Act by announcing that he would not vote for cloture, thus effectively ending the chances for passage of the highly controversial union organizing initiative.

The most humorous part of this story is that Specter betrayed the unions by reversing a prior position on the legislation:

The top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee says the Obama administration is on the right course to save the nation's financial system.

But Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire also says President Barack Obama's massive budget proposal will bankrupt the country.

Gregg says he has no regrets in withdrawing his nomination to become commerce secretary. He pulled out after deciding he could not fully back the administration's economic policies.

According to Open Secrets, Virginia Democratic Senator Mark Warner received $5,000.00 in campaign contributions from AIG in the last election cycle, and is the only sitting member of Congress from Virginia to do so.

We contacted Senator Warner's office yesterday to confirm whether the contribution had been received, and if so, whether he intends to return the money.
