One of the reasons windmills cannot generate energy efficiently is that the wind doesn't always blow — and when it does blow, bureaucrats pay wind farms to shut down:

The definition of a tough crowd? When Obama sycophants like Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews and Ezra Klein all give the President’s speech the worst reviews since the latest Ben Affleck movie, there’s not a whole heckuva lot for the MWU to add. Perhaps Olbermann said it best (didn’t think you’d ever see that line, did you?

Responding to President Obama’s speech about the Gulf oil spill this morning, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said, “The immediate issue here is a broken pipe that’s been spewing hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil a day into the ocean for mor

The Blog Prof links to Chris Horner's article at Pajamas Media that details how Barack Obama, George Soros, and wind energy lobbyists colluded to hide the details of two economic studies that showed the wind energy programs in Spain and Denmark didn't help the economy and create jobs as the president said they did.

It's almost impossible to overstate the economic devastation that would be wrought by Tax & Charade, should it follow healthcare nationalization through the Senate for Comrade Obama's eager signature. Not only would it represent by far the largest tax hike in history — at a time the economy couldn't possibly withstand it — but it would effectively drive whole industries overseas, pushing our unemployment rate to levels not seen since the Great Depression, which uncoincidentally was the last time left-wing Democrats had such unchallenged power.

In past arguments, er discussions, I've had concerning bias in global warming research and reporting, I've tried to explain just how much money there is to be made in the green industry. Al Gore is apparently the number one of example. (Hat tip: Instapundit.)

The ideological bent of the Democrats' cap-and-trade legislation and attempted health care takeover manifest a mind-boggling appetite for social control. Today Nancy Pelosi's health care monstrosity earns recognition as "the worst bill ever" by the Wall Street Journal. I'm not sure how long the record will stand in the Age of Obama, but it's hard to dispute that the bill under construction takes the cake for the moment.

Rasmussen Reports charts the decline in President Obama's approval index--the difference between those likely voters who strongly approve and who strongly disapprove of his performance--from his inauguration to the present, on a monthly basis. What is striking is how stable the electorate's views of Obama have been.

Not all oil execs are corrupt and/or cowardly enough to play along with the war on economic freedom and prosperity being waged behind the smokescreen of the global warming farce.

In my column at Townhall I list a few reasons to attend a Tax Day Tea Party in your area this week. Here is Doug Powers' reason for attending:For me, these tea parties are about putting an end to waste. Not the waste of money (though obviously that's a major concern), but rather the tragic waste of American ingenuity, innovation, creativity and philanthropy.

US Department of Transportation has issued new and tougher MPG standards:

The U.S. Department of Transportation has ordered automakers to increase fuel mileage in cars and light trucks to an average of 27.3 mpg by 2011.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said changes to the Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards, or CAFE standards, are important steps to achieving energy independence and bringing more fuel-efficient vehicles to market.

Ever since the 1970's one of the main goals of the Democratic party has been to reduce the amount energy consumed by the United States. This is not a bad idea in and of itself, but its urgency has always been ideological, rather than market-based. Cheap oil prices and Reagan-era deregulation foiled the Democrats' original efforts, but now, "global warming" has provided a convenient reason to continue, and expand, this effort.

Larry Page, cofounder of aggressively leftist Google, has bought up most of a neighborhood in a historic section of Palo Alto so he can tear down the tasteful old homes and put up a new mega-mansion. Since he doesn't have kids, he only needs four bedrooms and 5,900 square feet (not including the basement). But don't worry, the castle will "minimize the impact on the environment."

Another example thrown onto the pile of Obama acting like he is trying to destroy the country. Think of a single American president who thinks so little of our country, it's energy, drive, and can-do spirit. We invented prosperity fer chrissakes. Who is this guy?

One of the defining features of the Obama administration so far is its almost pathological inability to make hard choices--or even to acknowledge that hard choices need to be made. A prime example is the administration's insistence that making energy more expensive will somehow benefit our economy. This proposition is so foolish as to be almost self-refuting: in my view, anyone who doesn't understand that you can't create wealth by subsidizing the inefficient production of energy shouldn't be voting.

...and pretty soon we might be bankrupt.

The top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee says the Obama administration is on the right course to save the nation's financial system.

But Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire also says President Barack Obama's massive budget proposal will bankrupt the country.

Gregg says he has no regrets in withdrawing his nomination to become commerce secretary. He pulled out after deciding he could not fully back the administration's economic policies.

Everyone knows that Barack Obama is lost without his teleprompter, but his latest blunder, courtesy of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, via the Corner, suggests that the teleprompter may not be enough unless it includes phonetic spellings. Obama was speaking at a White House roundtable on clean energy systems, and repeatedly saluted Orion Energy Systems, whose CEO, Neal Verfuerth, was present at the event. So Obama referred to "Orion" a number of times.

Huge news for real-life ray guns: Electric lasers have hit battlefield strength for the first time -- paving the way for energy weapons to go to war.

In recent test-blasts, Pentagon-researchers at Northrop Grumman managed to get its 105 kilowatts of power out of their laser -- past the "100kW threshold [that] has been viewed traditionally as a proof of principle for 'weapons grade' power levels for high-energy lasers," Northrop's vice pr
